Family members of the most prominent government officials won't be allowed on official flights, unless they are part of official delegation - the chief of the prime minister's office Michał Dworczyk said on Monday. He added that there will be separate regulations for the President and the First Lady.
On Monday at the prime minister's office (KPRM) a meeting took place between representatives of parliamentary clubs, regarding a planned legislation that would regulate official flights of state VIPs.
"We believe that together we will be able to work out good regulations before the end of this term," Dworczyk said at a briefing after the meeting.
He also said that, during the meeting, various opinions were presented on who should be allowed to fly along with the VIPs. "Political decisions regarding who should also be allowed on official planes are the ones we need to make," he explained.
"One thing is certain, family members of most important state officials, except the President and the First lady, won't be allowed on board, unless they are part of official delegation. Same thing for families of MPs," said the KPRM chief.
Dworczyk said that such restrictions weren't introduced before and that the HEAD status protocol is "underspecified and discretionary".
Although Civic Platform (PO) MPs announced on Monday morning that they would attend the meeting, no one representing the party showed up.
Jan Grabiec, spokesperson of PO, explained that a decision has been made not to take part in the meeting until Law and Justice explains all controversies regarding official flights scandal.
He also said that the opposition expects full list of flights of Law and Justice politicians, including Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and his predecessor Beata Szydło, to be published in full detail.
The spokesperson for the government Piotr Müller said that he was disappointed that Civic Platform - Civic Coalition (PO - KO) members didn't show up. In his view, "it only proves that they aren't willing to take part in discussions on key issues".
Last week, the Marshal of the Sejm resigned from office after it was revealed that he used government aircraft for private trips.
With elections set for October, the affair has embarrassed the right-wing Law and Justice (PiS) party, which has said it is cleaning up an alleged legacy of corruption and communist influence tolerated by previous governments.
