A thousand days ago, Russia, under the orders of President Vladimir Putin, launched its military aggression against Ukraine. On this solemn anniversary, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine in maintaining regional stability. The Polish parliament honored the victims of Russia's invasion with a moment of silence, reflecting on the ongoing sacrifices and the resilience of the Ukrainian people amidst the continued conflict.
"1000 days of Russian aggression, 1000 days of Ukrainian heroism and suffering, 1000 days of Polish aid and solidarity," Tusk wrote on Tuesday.
"By supporting Ukraine, we keep war away from our borders. Let us remember this every day," he added.
Moment of silence in the Sejm
The lower chamber of the Polish parliament observed a moment of silence to honor the victims of Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
"I ask that we commemorate the memory of all the victims of this Russian armed invasion of our neighbor with a moment of silence," Sejm Speaker Szymon Hołownia said during the session.
The gesture highlighted Poland's solidarity with Ukraine and its acknowledgment of the profound human cost of the ongoing conflict.
The beginning of the atrocity
On the morning of February 24, 2022, Russia bombed dozens of strategic sites across Ukraine. Following a series of airstrikes, Russian forces launched a ground offensive from annexed Crimea, Belarus, Russia, and the occupied Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
This marked the start of Russia's full-scale military invasion of Ukraine, an aggression that continues to this day, leaving devastation and suffering in its wake.
