Daniel Obajtek, former CEO of state-controlled oil giant PKN Orlen, once again failed to appear for questioning before the parliamentary investigative commission on the so-called visa-for-cash scandal. He was summoned for Friday noon. Obajtek said on social media that he would not participate Civic Coalition's "circus".
The chairman of the commission, Michał Szczerba, concluded Friday's session of the commission by stating that "the witness did not appear, which will have consequences, which the commission will decide".
Szczerba told reporters that Obajtek sent him a request on Friday to postpone the questioning. He justified his absence at the hearing by duties related to his election campaign. Obajtek is running for the European Parliament on the PiS list in the Podkarpacie region.
At the beginning of the session, Szczerba informed that the District Court in Warsaw imposed a disciplinary fine of 3,000 PLN on Obajtek for not appearing before the commission on June 5, as requested by the commission. The court did not, however, approve the commission's request for detention and forced bringing of the witness.
Szczerba announced that another motion would be sent to the court regarding Obajtek, without specifying its exact content.
Obajtek: I will not participate in circus
Obajtek commented on the court's decision on platform X.
"MP Michał Szczerba arranged a political spectacle with taxpayers' money. His furious impulses were stopped yesterday by the District Court. Nevertheless, the Civic Coalition is still staging a performance on the last day of the campaign, but I will not participate in their circus," said the former CEO of Orlen.
He added that no charges have been brought against him and no proceedings are being conducted against him.
