A driver missed an exit on the S12 expressway near Lublin, stopped on the emergency lane, and began reversing. This reckless decision led to a collision with an oncoming vehicle. The General Directorate for National Roads and Highways shared the footage as a warning.
The incident occurred on November 14 near the Nałęczów interchange on the S12 expressway. The General Directorate for National Roads and Highways released a video of the dangerous event.
"Some of the most hazardous behaviors by drivers include excessive speed, malicious or aggressive driving, and stopping or reversing on expressways. A few days ago, a driver in a passenger car missed an exit at the Nałęczów interchange on the S12. She stopped in the emergency crossover lane and… started reversing. This led to a collision with an oncoming vehicle," the GDDKiA said in the video description.
Road authorities explain that in such situations, in order to avoid danger, drivers should simply proceed to the next interchange to exit.
The spokesperson for the Lublin Police, Kamil Gołębiowski, confirmed the woman had told officers she had missed her exit on the expressway.
"The driver responsible for the collision is a 53-year-old resident of Lublin. We are conducting an investigation, which will likely result in a court referral to penalize her for creating a traffic hazard and causing the collision," the officer reported.
He added that the driver was sober at the time of the incident. She now faces a hefty fine and penalty points on her license.
