The chairman of Polish Football Association Zbigniew Boniek has been appointed vice-president of the Union of European Football Associations. Furthermore, his membership in the UEFA Executive Committee has been extended for another four years. "This is a huge, individual acknowledgement of his work done so far as member of UEFA Executive Committee and PZPN Chairman!" - spokesperson for Poland's FA Maciej Sawicki said.
Boniek has been a member of UEFA’s Executive Committee since 2017 and has been re-elected for a four-year term during UEFA Congress in Montreux, Switzerland, where the organisation's headquarters are located.
"At today's UEFA Congress in Swiss Montreux the Executive Committee appointed Zbigniew Boniek as vice-president of the the Union of European Football Associations" - Polish Football Association said in a tweet.
The spokesman for the PZPN Maciej Sawicki wrote in a tweet: "PZPN Chairman Zbigniew Boniek has been named UEFA vice-president for a four-year term! This is a huge, individual acknowledgement of his work done so far as member of UEFA Executive Committee and PZPN Chairman!".
65-year-old Boniek has been at the helm of PZPN since October 26, 2012. His second term in this position, already extended by one year due to COVID-19 pandemic, will soon come to an end.
He is not allowed to run in the next election scheduled for August 18, 2021.
UEFA was founded on June 15, 1954, in Basel, Switzerland. The union consisting of 55 member associations is led by Aleksander Čeferin.
