Prices of consumer goods and services in January 2022 increased by 9.2% year on year, and by 1.9% compared to the previous month (December 2021), Poland's government agency Statistics Poland informed on Tuesday.
According to a PAP Biznes consensus, the markets were expecting a year-on-year inflation increase at 9.3%, and at 1.9% compaared to December of 2021.
In January, Statistics Poland annouced that inflation in December 2021 was at 8.6% year on year. The last time when inflation surpassed the 9% threshold happened in November of 2000, when it reached 9.3% year on year.
Inflation in January 2022 - increase indicators
According to preliminary data released by Statistics Poland, consumer prices in January 2022 increased by 9.2% compared with the corresponding month of the previous year. As related to the previous month consumer prices increased by 1.9%.
According to the data, the consumer price index in January 2022 was above the inflation target determined by the Monetary Policy Council (2.5% +/- 1 pp).
Electricity, gas, and other fuel prices increased by 18.2% compared to January 2021, whereas the overall dwelling expenses by 12%.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 9.4% in a year-on-year comparison.
