Inflation in December 2022 was at 16.6% year on year - according to a preliminary data released by the Central Statistical Office of Poland (Statistics Poland). Economy experts expected a 17.3% increase in consumer prices.
According to a flash estimate released by Statistics Poland on Thursday (January 5), consumer prices in Poland in December 2022 increased by 16.6% (price index 116.6) compared with the corresponding month of the previous year. As related to the previous month, consumer prices increased by 0.2% (price index 100.2).
Inflation in November 2022 was at 17.5% year on year.
A market consensus, which is a median of expert forecasts, assumed a 17.3% increase in consumer prices.
According to the flash estimate, prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 21.5% year on year, while prices of energy - by 31.2%, and fuels for personal transport means - by 13.5%.
Compared to November 2022, prices of consumer goods and services increased by 0.2%.
The final inflation data is to be announced on January 13.
