Inflation in August, 2022, was 16.1% in a year on year comparison - Poland's statistical office Statistics Poland informed on Wednesday (August 31). Experts expected consumer prices increase at 15.4% year on year.
Consumer prices according to the flash estimate in August 2022, compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, increased by 16.1% (price index 116.1), and as related to the previous month increased by 0.8% (price index 100.8) - Statistics Poland said on Wednesday (August 31).
To compare, inflation in July of this year was 15.6%, whereas in June - 15.5% year on year.
Inflation in Poland has surpassed the 16% threshold for the first time since March 1997, when consumer prices increased by 16.6% year on year.
According to the flash estimate, food and non-alcoholic beverages prices increased by 17.4% compared to August of 2021, electricity, gas and other fuels - by 40.3%, and fuels for personal transport means - by 23.3%.
As compared to July, 2022, consumer prices in August increased by 0.8%.
