Inflation in Poland was at 8.5% in February in a year-on-year comparison, according to the latest data released by Statistics Poland. Analysts argue that prices spike has temporarily slowed down thanks to the anti-inflationary shield. "A new chapter will begin in March with inflation higher than 10%" - mBank economists said in their comment on the latest data.
Statistics Poland, the country's government statistical office, said initially that prices of goods and services in January increased to 9.2% year on year. According to the latest data, it was at 9.4%.
According to a consensus of economists asked by the Polish Press Agency, inflation in February was at 8.1% year on year.

"Inflation in February has decreased to 8.5% yoy from 9.4% yoy in January. It's an effect of the shield on fuels and food. January was corrected up (from 9.2%) due to an update in the inflation weighting system. The readings have a chiefly historical significance. A new chapter will begin in March with inflation higher than 10%" - mBank analysts said on Twitter.
They added that "a new chapter will begin in March with inflation higher than 10%".
"Inflation in February has temporarily slowed down to 8.5% yoy in February thanks to the Anti-Inflationary Shield, however still surpassing our already quite high expectations (8.4%) and the market consensus (8.1%). The January reading has been increased up to 9.4%," Bank Pekao economists said on Twitter.
