It's official. Grzegorz Krychowiak will be available to play for Poland against England at Wembley on Wednesday. Poland's Football Association (PZPN) confirmed earlier today that UEFA has allowed the midfielder to join his team.
Krychowiak was one of the two Polish players who have tested positive for coronavirus ahead of the Wednesday's qualifier against England at Wembley. However, he had already recovered from COVID-19 at end of 2020. The tests had showed high level of antibodies in the player, and so the PZPN asked the UEFA to look into the matter.
On Wednesday, Krychowiak was tested again, but this time with a negative result. This meant he would almost certainly be able to join his teammates, however, the UEFA still had to approve the player.
"After receiving the player's full medical history, the European federation has found Poland's request valid and allowed Krychowiak to play against England at Wembley" - the PZPN wrote on its website on Wednesday morning.
Krychowiak has already joined the team, which flew to England on Tuesday without him. Positive coronavirus test results already eliminated three other players from the squad: goalkeeper Łukasz Skorupski, midfielder Mateusz Klich, and defender Kamil Piątkowski who had played against Andorra on Sunday.
"We won't give up that easy!" - Poland's Football Association tweeted on Wednesday, announcing Krychowiak will be with his team at Wembley.
