This wasn't an accident but an attack - that's what the prosecutor said about the incident at the shooting range in Nietoperek near Międzyrzecz (Lubusz voivodeship). A 23-year-old man was detained who will be charged with murdering a woman and attemted murder of her husband.
Roman Witkowski from the Prosecutor's Office in Gorzów Wielkopolski informed that the tragedy took place before noon.
"A 23-year-old man entered a private shooting range. He fired several times in the direction of a 42-year-old woman who was an instructor at the facility," the prosecutor said.
At that stage Witkowski refused to comment on the exact number of shots fired and the kind of weapon used.
Incapacitated
"After shooting the woman, the attacker tried to run away and when he saw another instructor chasing after him, he fired at him too," TVN24 reporter Aleksander Przybylski said.
The other instructor was the shot woman's husband. The bullet missed him, he managed to incapacitate the attacker and call the police. Soon after, an air ambulance arrived at the scene, but unfortunately the doctor pronounced the 42-year-old woman dead. The prosecutor refused to comment on possible motive of the assailant. It remains unknown if the 23-year-old was at the range ever before and if he knew the people he had attacked.
"The detained man will soon be questioned. He will be charged with murder and attempted murder. He may be facing life in prison," said prosecutor Roman Witkowski.
Forensic experts were examining the murder scene.
