People in Poland should not have to wear masks outdoors from May 15 if they keep a safe distance from others, Health Minister Adam Niedzielski said on Wednesday, as the government announced a loosening of COVID-19 restrictions.
"Starting May 15 we will propose that Poles should not wear masks outdoors, as long as they keep 1,5-meter distance. Whenever such distance is impossible to maintain, everyone should wear masks as basic preventive measure" - Health Minister Adam Niedzielski said on Wedensday.
Niedzielski added that this measure would only be implemented if the number of coronavirus cases per 100,000 people was lower than 15.
Wearing masks indoors will remain mandatory.
Poland will reopen shopping centres on May 4, while hotels will be allowed to open from May 8 and restaurants will be able to serve food outdoors from May 15, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Wednesday, as he presented plans to lift COVID-19 restrictions.
"The data we are receiving on infections allows us to make a decision related to the unfreezing of the economy and provides some grounds for cautious optimism," Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki told a news conference.
By the end of May, Morawiecki said all children would be able to return to school and it would be possible to organise events such as weddings with up to 50 people.
