On November 22, a primary election will take place to select the Civic Coalition’s (KO) candidate for the presidency, with results to be announced the following day, said Dorota Niedziela, head of the commission organizing the vote. Members of KO's constituent parties will cast their votes via secured SMS.
The primary contenders are Rafał Trzaskowski, the Mayor of Warsaw and Deputy Leader of the Civic Platform (PO), and Radosław Sikorski, the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Last Saturday, PO leader and former Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that the primary would likely be conducted electronically on November 23. However, Niedziela confirmed on Friday that the vote would be held earlier, on November 22.
Niedziela assured that the voting process would be entirely anonymous. The results will be announced the day after the primary. Members of all parties forming KO (Civic Platform, Modern, the Polish Initiative, and the Greens) will participate in the vote.
The commission overseeing the election includes three representatives from PO - Dorota Niedziela, Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Monika Wielichowska, and KO parliamentary club leader Zbigniew Konwiński - as well as one representative from each of KO’s other member parties: Sławomir Potapowicz (Modern), Klaudia Jachira (Greens), and Dariusz Joński (Polish Initiative).
Representatives of the candidates also serve on the commission: Wioletta Paprocka-Ślusarska, a close aide to Trzaskowski and former KO campaign head, represents him, while Marta Golbik, a deputy and vice-chair of KO's parliamentary club, represents Sikorski.
The candidate chosen in the primary will unveil their program on December 7 in Silesia.
