Health Ministry on Monday (March 5) informed about 9,902 newly confirmed coronavirus cases and 64 COVID-related deaths. So far, Poland has reported a total of 2,448,463 infections and 55,005 fatalities.
As case numbers soar with the spread of a highly contagious variant of the coronavirus first identified in Britain, Poland's health service has been driven to the brink, with some regions close to running out of ventilators.
The southern region of Silesia has yet again been hit worst, as 1,734 cases were reported there.
Part of COVID patients hospitalised in Silesia have been transported to neighbouring regions due to shortage of beds.
A week ago on Monday 16,965 cases were reported, while the highest daily spike in infections - 35,251 - has been recorded on April 1.
The highest daily number of deaths so far - 674 - has been reported on November 25, 2020.
Since the start of the pandemic, Poland has reported 2,448,463 coronavirus cases, of which 55,005 turned out to be fatal.
