According to the latest data, eight new cases of Omicron variant of the coronavirus have been detected, which originated from two previously confirmed outbreaks - in Warsaw and Gdańsk, Health Ministry spokesperson Wojciech Andrusiewicz told Radio Plus on Thursday. He added that a total of 15 cases of Omicron have been detected in Poland so far.
Andrusiewicz informed Thursday about two new outbreaks of the Omicron variant of coronavirus - at a school in Gdańsk, and at a kindergarten in Warsaw. He said that all eight persons have been isolated.
He added that some of said cases were still waiting to be added to the international GISAID database.
Andrusiewicz confirmed that a total of 15 Omicron cases have been reported in Poland so far.
The spokesman also said that 616 COVID-related deaths were reported on Thursday (73% of which were unvaccinated people), and that Poland was in a peak of the fourth wave when it comes of mortality rate. He stressed that the average age of the deceased was approx. 75 years.
He also said that the peak of infections and hospitalisations was already over, and that there should not be any changes in restrictions for Christmas.
