The Ministry of Health informed on Monday about 575 newly confirmed coronavirus infection cases and the death of 1 person. Since the start of the pandemic, Poland has reported 47,469 infections and 1732 deaths so far.
The ministry said in Monday's report that 575 new coronavirus infections have been confirmed in Poland. The daily number was higher than on Sunday when 548 cases were reported, yet lower than Saturday's 658 cases. The latter has become Poland's daily record number of infections since the start of the pandemic.
Health ministry also said that a 76-year-old woman died after contracting the coronavirus. It was added that she had suffered from co-occurring medical conditions.
In total, since the start of the pandemic in Poland, 47,469 infections have been confirmed, of which 1732 turned out to be fatal.
Within the previous seven days, from Monday, June 27 to Sunday, August 2, the health ministry informed about a total of 3829 new coronavirus infections.
On Monday 337 infections were reported, 502 on Tuesday, 512 on Wednesday, 615 on Thursday, 657 on Friday, 658 on Saturday (record daily number), and 548 on Sunday.
The ministry also released the latest "coronavirus report", according to which on Monday:
- 1,841 "COVID-19" beds were being occupied
- 74 ventilators were being used
- 95,794 persons have been placed in quarantine
- 8,272 persons have been under epidemiological supervision
- 34,881 persons have recovered
The government's spokesperson Piotr Müller said on Monday in TVN24 that fines for businesses for not following sanitary restrictions were to be significantly increased. "Currently, some of these sanctions are so low that they pose no risk for companies," Müller explained.
He also added that sanitary authorities and education ministry were likely to announce guidelines for schools on conduct lessons during the pandemic. Furthermore, Müller said restrictions in that regard were likely to different depending on regions.
Poland's health minister said police health authorities would start checks in shops this week to see if people are following regulations to keep their mouths and noses covered.
"This week we are starting inspections in shops... (to see) whether clients are wearing masks, whether the staff are wearing masks," Łukasz Szumowski told Polish public radio.
