The Ministry of Health informed on Monday about 29,100 newly confirmed cases of coronavirus infection, as well as two COVID-related deaths. Since the start of the pandemic Poland has reported a total of 5,547,315 infections and 103,846 deaths.
The highest number of infections was recorded in the Masovian and Silesian voivodeships - 5,348 and 5,276 respectively.
Last week on Monday, the Ministry of Health informed about 10,445 new infections, so today's number is higher by 18,655, which translates into a 178% increase.
The average number of infections for the last seven days has increased up to 31,972 cases and is the highest since the start of pandemic in Poland. Compared to Sunday (Jan. 23) it has increased by 2,665.
The number of active COVID cases has amounted to 581,561 and is also the highest since start of the pandemic.
The ministry also said in Monday's report that two people had died due to COVID-19. One of them had pre-existing medical conditions.
The average number of COVID-related deaths for the last seven days had decreased and is the lowest since November 18, 2021.
On Saturday (Jan. 22), the ministry reported 40,876 new COVID cases.
