"Major escalation of the conflict." Polish ministers on Russia's alleged use of ICBM

On Thursday morning, Russian forces attacked the city of Dnipro in Ukraine. According to Ukrainian Air Force reports, they used an intercontinental ballistic missile, marking the first instance of Russia using such a weapon against Ukraine.

Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, was asked about the reports of the Russian attack during a press conference. He stated that "the threat on the entire territory of Ukraine is very real every day."

"If the information about a mass attack and the use of new types of weapons is confirmed, it shows that an escalation is taking place from Russia's side," he added.

The defense minister also urged that Poland's "determination to help Ukraine must be even greater than yesterday or the day before."

"It cannot stop," Kosiniak-Kamysz stressed.

On Thursday, during a meeting with residents of Chrzanów, southern Poland, Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski also commented on the matter. "This is a major escalation of the conflict, as these are missiles that normally carry weapons of a known nature," he said.

"I don’t want to scare anyone, but the reality is that even when I was heading to this meeting, I had to stay in contact with the ambassador and, along with Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak, discuss how to conduct a potential evacuation," he added.

Sikorski pointed out that "it is also no coincidence that fighter jets patrol Polish airspace at night in a state of highest readiness."

"This is yet another stage of Russia's cruel escalation of this war against our neighbor," Sikorski stated, referring to Russia's use of the intercontinental ballistic missile.

"I am determined to keep this war as far away from our borders as possible," the foreign minister added.
