The head of the Polish Teachers' Union (ZNP) Sławomir Broniarz recommends teachers to restrict their work activities only to didactic duties. "All that is included in the teaching quota, we shall carry out. We recommend, however, that teachers should radically limit their activity in all the other fields," he told TVN24 reporter.
"Not so long ago, the prime minister was kind enough to mention that teachers work much less than other groups. So now, we would like to show the prime minister, but not only him, how much work teachers really do. How much they're expected to do, as stated in the quota and how much effort and costs teachers must suffer to keep the lessons going," the ZNP chief told TVN24.
He added: "All that is included in the teaching quota, we shall carry out. We recommend, however, that teachers should radically limit their activity in all the other fields".
"We would like to point out that when teachers take a class to a two-day trip, they are looking after the children for a full 48 hours, bearing full responsibility for anything that happens," he said. "All the other activities - trips, contests, theatre shows - those dozens of hours spent by teachers for students, for the local community," he added.
"So if the government tells us that there's no money for pay increase, we shall work adequately to wages that each teacher receives every month," said Broniarz.
"Many teachers suggested such solution"
Asked if the ZNP received any feedback from schools regarding potential interest in the new method of strike, Broniarz replied: "Many teachers suggested taking such measures, many of them expressed positive opinions regarding the union's decision".
"It's unacceptable that we're carrying out 75 percent of our tasks spending our money, on our private equipment, in our spare time, at the cost of our families and on top of that we're being accused of working less than others," he underscored.
