We must not let ourselves be intimidated, we must not lose - said Magdalena Adamowicz, the widow after former Gdańsk Mayor Paweł Adamowicz, who had been stabbed during last year's Grand Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (GOCC) and died the following day. Civic Platform MEP was collecting money for the charity on Sunday in the streets of Gdańsk. "My children are really gripped with me being here, and it's very frightening for me as well," she said.

I wouldn't like pass this time crying and hurting. I believe that goodness must prevail, we must not let ourselves to be intimidated, we must not lose," Adamowicz said."I believe Paweł is right here with me, that he's looking from above and he's happy," she added. Mrs. Adamowicz also said her daughters decided not to volunteer for the charity and that they were worried about her. "My children are really gripped with me being here, and it's very frightening for me as well. I trust people, but somewhere inside me there's a certain emotional anxiety. When I'm surrounded with crowds, memories and emotions from that tragic day come back," Mrs. Adamowicz said."I'm overcoming certain obstacles and I believe the Ochestra will be playing long. We must be here together, like when Paweł died," she appealed. "Gdańsk shares goodness"The Finale of the GOCC in Gdańsk was organised under the motto: "Gdańsk shares goodness", referring to the last words spoken by mayor Adamowicz before being stabbed. Magdalena Adamowicz said "Gdańsk has always been generous, people of Gdańsk are very open. Gdańsk is a symbol of freedom and is spreading it all over the world". At 7.30pm Mrs. Adamowicz took part in the "Light Up the Sky" ceremony at the European Solidarity Centre. She said that it would be the most difficult moment of the day. "In spite of fear, I feel the need to be there. I want to overcome, I want to do it," she reassured.Death of mayor AdamowiczOn 13th of January 2019, during the GOCC Finale in Gdańsk, a 27-year-old Stefan W. stabbed with a knife the then Mayor of Gdańsk Paweł Adamowicz. The mayor was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He died the following day. He was 53, and had been the city's mayor for the last 20 years. The funeral was held on January 19th, 2019 in St. Mary's Church in Gdańsk.
