I have asked the defense minister, PM's office, and I will also talk to the president about setting up rules regarding official flights. We would like the families of the officials to be able to use government planes in informal situations, after paying normal cruise fees - Law and Justice (PiS) chairman Jarosław Kaczyński told Polish Press Agency (PAP) on Tuesday.
Private broadcaster Radio Zet has reported that the Marshal of the Sejm Marek Kuchciński was flying together with his family in government plane.
Marek Kuchciński underscored in his statement on Saturday that his fellow-passengers had no possibility to pay for the flight and their presence hadn't affected the overall cost.
On Monday (July 29), the head of the Sejm Information Centre, Andrzej Grzegrzółka said that Marshal Kuchciński had donated 5.000 zlotys to the Alarm Clock Clinic (Klinika Budzik) and 10.000 zlotys to Caritas Polska, for the 23 flights he took in government plane.
In reaction to Kuchciński's flights, the opposition grouping PO-KO (Civic Platform - Civic Coalition) demanded his dismissal from Sejm speaker function. As his replacement, the formation proposed Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, the current deputy speaker of the lower house.
"Marshal Kuchiński made a gesture we'd expected from him, namely he paid 15.000 zlotys for charitable causes. Nevertheless, when it comes to the gist of the problem, we must take social expectations into account, and that's why I have asked the defense minister and the PM's office chief, and I will also talk to the president, about setting up rules regarding official flights," said the PiS chairman.
"In other words, except the official flights like when the President is flying together with the First Lady, we want the family members of the officials to be able to fly too, after paying normal cruise fees. We must also create a legal basis for such fees to be accepted," Kaczyński added.
