Another European Union summit may be necessary to agree on the bloc's budget and coronavirus recovery fund, Poland's prime minister said on Tuesday, adding that the country's stance on the issue has not changed.
Poland and Hungary are blocking 1.8 trillion euros in funds over a clause linking cash to respect for the rule of law, with matters set to come to a head at this week's EU summit.
"It may happen that another summit will be necessary... maybe there will be more long months of negotiations and a possible provisional budget. No scenarios should be ruled out at this stage," Mateusz Morawiecki told a news conference.
The European Union needs a signal from Poland and Hungary on by Tuesday that they will drop their veto of the EU budget and recovery fund, or the bloc will have to set it up without the two member states, a senior EU diplomat said on Monday.
Earlier on Tuesday, Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak also reiterated Poland's stance that making funding conditional on respect for the rule of law was unacceptable for Poland.
