Fire service have been trying to fix damage caused by heavy rainfall in Zielona Góra. "Dozens of flooded places" - city mayor Janusz Kubicki said on Wednesday. The water flooded a local medical centre and airport, as well as other towns in the Lubuskie province.
"Armageddon over the city. City's flooded. Such rainfall is a disaster. Storms and rain falling for hours have paralised the city. Dozens of flooded places" - Mayor of Zielona Góra Janusz Kubicki said on Wednesday.
Fire service has been receiving calls from all over the city. "We really have armageddon on our hands, however it moved towards Sulechów. We've received 140 calls in 120 minutes and the number is rising. All forces and resources are being used, namely 40 units of voluntary fire service and 3 state fire service" - spokesman for Zielona Góra fire service Arkadiusz Kaniak told TVN24 at 12:30.
Before 2 p.m., there were already 200 calls regarding damage caused by the rain across the whole province.
Water also found its way into the basement of the local philharmonic. Firefighters had to use water pumps.
Employees of Aldemed medical centre estimated that damage caused by the rain would amount to at least tens of thousand of zlotys. Basement of the building, where servers and archives are kept, has been completely flooded.
Airport in Przylepa used by local aero club has been temporarily closed as up to 15 cm of water stood on a runway.
