U.S. President Joe Biden will come to Poland on Friday. Former U.S. Ambassador to Poland Daniel Fried told TVN24 that Biden's visit "is an important moment for the West and for the defence of freedom". Fried also told TVN24's Piotr Kraśko that Biden was likely to "express the solidarity of the West – the United States and Europe – to defeat Putin’s aggression, to defend freedom in Ukraine, and to not accept Putin’s diktat as fait accompli". The former ambassador added that Biden wanted to underscore "special solidarity with Poland, which is a frontline state and has accepted 2 million Ukrainian refugees with a generosity of spirit that reminds us all that human beings can rise and act according to their better angels," the former U.S. Ambassador to Poland said.
"This is an important moment for the West and for the defence of freedom. It’s good that president Biden is coming to Poland. We are allies. Allies not in theory, but in situation of war to Poland’s east. The situation could not be more serious. It’s an act of solidarity that Biden is coming here, but this is not a ceremonial visit. This is a visit of consultations between allies in a wartime situation. We’re not in the war. It’s more like Roosevelt-Churchill meeting before the United States’ entry into World War II, when they outlined the themes, the principles of how we would fight win this war. The Atlantic Charter. And this is an important set of discussions with our ally Poland, about the dangers in the immediate future. The choices we may face very soon and our longer-term policy in dealing with Putin’s Russia," Daniel Fried said.
"I think that president Biden will express the solidarity of the West – the United States and Europe – to defeat Putin’s aggression, to defend freedom in Ukraine, and to not accept Putin’s diktat as fait accompli. This is important, but the work is only beginning. We face great dangers - Putin may escalate the war against Ukraine, and even against NATO. So this is not the time for celebration, this is a time for coordinating out policies and developing our joint strategy. Of course, president Biden;s trip to Poland comes immediately after the emergency NATO summit. So president Biden will be here after this meeting. He will be here to express special solidarity with Poland, which is a frontline state and has accepted 2 million Ukrainian refugees with a generosity of spirit that reminds us all that human beings can rise and act according to their better angels," the former U.S. Ambassador to Poland underscored.
