In Łódź, the incumbent mayor, Hanna Zdanowska easily secured another term in office after receiving a huge majority of votes. The real battle for her, however, is only about to begin, as the Łódź voivode backed by Law and Justice claims Zdanowska has no right to hold the office.
On Sunday, however, she celebrated, as she has a good reason to do so. According to IPSOS exit poll for TVN24, some 70,1 percent of Łódź residents voted her.
"Łódź has won! You've shown whose in charge here. You're the ones that decide, you're wonderful," Hanna Zdanowska said after exit polls were announced.
The United Right's candidate, Waldemar Buda received 24,2 percent of votes.
The remaining candidates were left far behind as none of them got more than 1,5 percent of votes.
However, Zdanowska's electoral success is overshadowed by a legally binding sentence she has heard for providing untrue statements in documents.
Hanna Zdanowska's main rival, Waldemar Buda congratulated the winner and said that "the emerging legal problems are disturbing". "These problems bring no optimism regarding the future of Łódź. I hope that we will settle this situation as soon as possible, so that Łódź can flourish. Because this is the fundamental issue," said Buda.
