The Mayor of Gdańsk Paweł Adamowicz invited the Minister of Defense Mariusz Błaszczak on Tuesday, to take part in the commemorations of the anniversary of WWII outbreak that will take place at Westerplatte. "We find it important to include the Polish Army representatives in the commemorations," Mr Adamowicz wrote in a letter to minister Błaszczak.
"I'm glad to see Mayor of Gdańsk Paweł Adamowicz understand that it's impossible to hold official commemorations at Westerplatte without the presence of the Polish Army," said minister Błaszczak.
He added that "he's wasn't sure" whether or not Adamowicz's letter was a "media ploy". He reassured that the military will join the preparations for the observances of WWII outbreak anniversary. "I will not let the ceremony in this special place (Westerplatte) to be held without full military ceremonial," said the defense minister.
The letter by the mayor of Gdańsk comes after last week's mutual accusations between Mr Adamowicz and the ministry of defense regarding the presence of Polish Armed Forces representatives at the Westerplatte commemorations.
