Poland's Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced on Friday the government has introduced the state of epidemic. "We're expecting even as many as 10.000 infection cases in the next few days" - he added. The number of coronavirus infections went up to 411 as of March 20 afternoon.
"We're introducing the state of epidemic today, which brings about new prerogatives, but also imposes new responsibilities upon us - Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said at a press conference on Friday.
"In order to prevent further spread, to curtail it, to implement necessary regulations, also regarding the quarantine, we're introducing the state of epidemic today" - the prime minister said.
He added that a decision has been made to extend the shutdown of all education institutions and universities until the Easter.
Morawiecki also said the penalty for not complying with quarantine regulations would be increased to up to 30.000 zloty.
"We're expecting even as many as 10.000 infection cases in the next few days" - PM Morawiecki stressed.
The head of the cabinet announced that May 10 presidential election would take place as scheduled.
In Poland, 898 people were being hospitalised due to coronavirus, and 47.115 have been placed under quarantine - according to the health ministry.
