Poland's Health Ministry said on Wednesday that the total number of coronavirus cases recorded so far has surpassed 200,000. According to the official data, the first 100,000 cases were reported on the 215th day of the pandemic. Further 100,000 cases - within the last 17 days.
Health Ministry informed on Wednesday about 10,040 new cases of coronavirus infection. This has been the highest number reported so far since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in Poland. In total, Poland has reported 202,579 infections, as of October 21.
Poland passed the 100,000 cases threshold on October 4, which was 215 days since the first infection in Poland had been confirmed. On that day, a 66-year-old man was tested positive for coronavirus.
Further 100,000 cases in Poland, according to health ministry's data, were diagnosed within 17 days.
The ministry also said that it had needed to perform some 3,4 million tests on more than 3,3 million people to confirm the first 100,000 cases.
The next 100,000 cases were confirmed after carrying out over 650,000 tests on 640,000 people.
Civic Coalition MPs Robert Kropiwnicki stressed the gravity of these statistics during Wednesday's parliamentary debate devoted to the pandemic.
"This is a downfall scale, a scale of your negligence. You've had eight months for this and you've wasted it fighting over who would become minister, who would chair companies, where to hire your children" - he addressed the ruling party.
"How will you help sanitary services, how will help the paramedics? Health care system is collapsing in front our eyes, and you happily announce you plan to build new hospitals. Help those who are struggling today, help the paramedics, help emergency services, as they are the ones who really struggle today, they're the ones in the trenches" Kropiwnicki said.
