Kraków has Poland's first restaurant with two Michelin stars

The restaurant's master chef and owner Przemysław Klima announced on social media that Bottiglieria 1881 has been awarded the second star. Michelin praised the establishment for "sophistication, depth and a wonderful purity of flavour".

"The best of the Polish larder is used throughout, while each finely crafted course is finished with an artistic flourish," we read.

"Sit in the century old cellar for an intimate dining experience, or ask for a table opposite the open kitchen to see the talented team at work as they produce such stunning cooking," Michelin added.

Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guides said: "We are thrilled to announce Poland’s first ever Two Michelin Star restaurant, as we continue to follow the exciting gastronomic developments in Cracow and Warsaw. We are also excited to expand our coverage of Poland to include Poznań, one of the country’s oldest cities, with its rich cultural history. The inspectors were impressed by its vibrant and fast developing restaurant scene and have found many appealing restaurants to recommend to our readers."

Bottiglieria 1881 has been also noticed by the creators of the Opinionated About Dining ranking based on surveys. The restaurant has been ranked 25th on the list of 30 best new eateries in Europe. It is also the only Polish restaurant on said list.

In this year's edition of the Michelin Guide, the inspectors visited 19 restaurants in Warsaw, 18 in Kraków, 11 in Poznań, and 1 in Kościelisko.

Warsaw's restaurant Nuta and Poznań's Muga have been awarded their first stars.

The Bib Gourmand award for offering good food at reasonable prices has been awarded to six new restaurants. "MOLÁM in Cracow is a buzzy Thai restaurant; in Poznań, Fromażeria is the place for cheese lovers, while TU.REStAURANT is a striking looking spot with an appealing modern European menu. In Warsaw, Koneser Grill occupies an old vodka factory and specialises in steaks, Le Braci is an intimate Italian restaurant with an enticing menu and Kieliszki na Próżnej combines hearty cooking with an extensive wine list," Michelin said.

"They all join the existing ‘Bib’ alewino, which also specialises in traditional Polish flavours and a great choice of wines."

One Michelin Star marks restaurants "worth a stop", two stars marks places "worth a detour", while three stars are awarded to eateries "worth a separate trip".
