A passenger of a number 10 tram in Warsaw wrote a letter to Trawmaje Warszawskie in which she praised the driver of the said tram for her empathy. In order to help a Ukrainian woman and her child, who got lost in Warsaw, the driver stopped the vehicle and offered them sandwiches and water.
The letter of praise was published on Tuesday (March 15) at Tramwaje Warszawskie Facebook page. The incident had taken place earlier that day.
A ticket for the last penny
"Around 4:30 at the Central Station, a woman entered this tram with a small 6-year-old child, which was crying bitterly. At the Nowowiejska stop, the driver approached this woman and gave her sandwiches and a bottle of water. The child instantly reached its hands to take it, while the woman started to cry and tried to explain something. The driver asked if she spoke English" - the passenger wrote.
She explained in her letter that the woman and her child had fled from Ukraine, bought a ticket for their last penny, and had not been eating for more than half a day. "The woman was showing a piece of paper, and the driver promised she would tell her where to exit. At Dworkowa stop, the driver stepped out of the cabin, showed the refugees which way they should go and gave the woman some money, explaining that was all she had on her," the passenger wrote in the letter of praise.
Selfless help
"I'm very glad that I live in a city in which (Ukrainian) flags attached to public transport vehicles are not just an empty gesture, and that there are people who care, because selfless help sows goodness," she said.
Trawmaje Warszawski, e informed that it was Iwona Hryniuk - from Wola district tram depot - who had driven the tram that day. "She's in the photo with her son. Thank you" - we read in the post.
