"I'm absolutely certain that the one thing we need to focus on today is the future" - the Mayor of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski told TVN24 on Wednesday. The deputy chief of a centrist opposition Civic Platform (PO) party added that the recent meeting of PO politicians "proves that today everyone is thinking on how move forward".
Recent weeks were difficult for Civic Platform as the party struggles with crisis on the political scene, as well as an internal one. One the latest signs of crisis was MEP Róża Thun's departure. The party lawmakers met on Tuesday to held a six-hour-long debate on the current state of affairs.
The Mayor of Warsaw and Civic Platform deputy chief Rafał Trzaskowski commented on the situation in Wednesday's interview for TVN24.
"I'm absolutely certain that the one thing we need to focus on today is the future" - he said. In his opinion, "yesterday's very frank discussion of the Civic Platform club "proves that today everyone is thinking on how move forward".
"I'm certainly not going to say that everything is fantastic" - Trzaskowski said.
"Today it's our joint responsibility to both make Civic Platform stronger, as it is very needed on the political scene, and make Civic Coalition stronger, because it allows us to expand, and most importantly, what I'm trying to do myself, to attract other groups to getting socially involved" - Civic Platform 2020 presidential candidate said.
In the mayor's view, without these elements "the opposition won't be able to win the election".
