The driver who caused a deadly accident in Warsaw district of Bielany has been arrested for three months - the District Court in Warsaw ruled on Tuesday. The 31-year-old Krystian O., however, will not yet be physically placed under arrest as a medical certificate is necessary.
On Monday, October 21, an arrest court proceedings were held. The court, however, rejected the prosecutor's motion to issue a decision on temporary arrest for Krystian O. and placed him under police supervision. The prosecutor's office appealed against that decision.
On Tuesday, October 29, the District Court in Warsaw decided that Krystian O. would be arrested for three months.
However, it will be only possible to carry out the court's decision after positive opinion by doctors have been issued, as the man is currently in a hospital. The Warsaw Metropolitan Police did not reveal when and why Krystian O. had been admitted to the hospital.
Pleaded guilty
On Sunday, October 20, on Sokratesa street in Warsaw district of Bielany, 31-year-old Krystian O. driving a BMW hit a pedestrian at a crosswalk. The man was crossing the street with his wife and child in a stroller. The 33-year-old man died at the scene despite resuscitation attempts. The driver of the BMW was sober.
Krystian O. was charged with causing a road accident that resulted in death, and with placing life and health of a woman and her child under direct threat.
The driver pleaded guilty of all charges. According to the head of the City Road Administration, Krystian O. could have been going even 130 km/h.
