A refugee from Ukraine arrived in Warsaw together with her sister, but already after a few hours in the city she got lost. City Guard officers found her in the middle of the night in Bielany district. It turned out the woman suffered from dysmnesia.
The situation took place in the beginning of June. Around 1:30 a.m., City Guard officers from Bielany district spotted a woman wandering around Przy Agorze Street. "It was clear she was lost. She was scared and initially wouldn't even respond to questions. Shortly after she spoke in Ukrainian and presented two passports. One belonged to her, while the other to her sister," we read in a statement issued by the City Guard.
The 59-year-old had on her two bus tickets from Ukraine to Poland. According to the dates on the tickets, it appeared that she must have came to Poland the previous day.
"She couldn't tell where her sister could be, she didn't have any bigger luggage with her, no mobile phone, nor any number to relatives. Police and ambulance were called to the scene. The woman wasn't listed as a missing person," we read further.
The paramedics examined the woman and said there was no need to place her in a hospital. The city guards decided to take her to an information centre at Warsaw West Station (Warszawa Zachodnia), as she had arrived there with her sister the day before. There was a chance her relatives could still be there.
"At the information centre it was ascertained that her sister had been looking for her from early morning. The missing woman had wandered off when her sister was taking care of the formalities. The 59-year-old was cold, so the officers took her to a food centre so she could drink hot tea and eat something. In the meantime, the city guards called a volunteer worker who was helping the missing woman's sister to hang posters about her dissapearance," the City Guard informed. Thanks to him, the officers learned that the distressed sister decided to spend the night at the dosshouse at Warsaw West Station.
"A few minutes later, the two sisters were relieved to see the happy ending of this unsettling incident," the City Guard said.
