A pontoon bridge over the Vistula will be ready on Tuesday - the head of the prime minister's office, Michał Dworczyk, said on Monday. The plan is to attach to the bridge a temporary system that would direct the flow of waste towards "Czajka" waste treatment plant. We're doing all we can to stop the release of waste directly into the Vistula - Dworczyk reassured.
The chief of the Ministry of Marine Economy and Inland Navigation, Marek Gróbarczyk, declared in an interview for Polish Press Agency (PAP) that the new pipeline to "Czajka" would be installed after a week from the construction of the pontoon bridge on the Vistula.
"The bridge should be ready on Tuesday and then the conctruction of the system would begin. We don't want to make final declarations regarding when the waste would be directed to the waste treatment plant "Czajka," Dworczyk said a press conference on Friday.
He reassured that all services are fully operational. "We're doing all we can to stop the release of waste directly into the Vistula," he said.
He explained that all necessary works are being done simultaneously. "On the one hand, military equipment is coming from three garrisons to build the bridge, and on the other, the Polish Waters are preparing to build the pipeline," he added.
Joint efforts
"It needs to be stressed that it's a government solution. I'm surprised that Mayor Trzaskowski initially rejected this idea. I was surprised by his yesterday's statement in which he had attacked the Polish Army, however, we're consistently trying to prevent degregation of the Vistula," said the Minister of Defense, Mariusz Błaszczak. "We hear that it will take weeks to fix the malfunction. Constant release of waste for such a long time would mean a real danger for people living north of Warsaw, and it would result in a degradation of the river," the minister added.
The Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski said on Friday that cooperation between the city and the governement was necessary. "We're working on actions that would reduce the damage caused by the waste. We want to use ozone to make the waste flowing into the Vistula more safe," he explained.
The Minister of Interior Affairs and Administration, Mariusz Kamiński, said that any public officer responsible for the malfunction would face consequences. "At the present stage, the investigators do not exclude the possibility of a deliberate action," he added.
