For over 200 years we have helped each other’s struggle for freedom, for democracy, for rule of law. And today, for the first time in history, we share that same freedom. Both America and Poland are free - the U.S. Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski said in an interview with TVN24 on Wednesday (Sept. 6). The ambassador also stressed the importance of shared values, which in his opinion are what "underpins our relationship with Poland today".
On Wednesday, during the Economic Forum in Karpacz, the U.S. Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski spoke with TVN24's reporter Jan Niedziałek. The previous day, on Tuesday, the ambassador received the "Man of the Year" award.
Ambassador Brzezinski said the award had been a complete surprise to him.
"I am profoundly honored, and I accept it on behalf of 600+ colleagues I have at U.S. mission Poland. Because, day in and day out, my colleagues – whether in economics, politics, military, law enforcement, and other subjects – drive this relationship forward every single day," he added.
"We want the Polish-American relationship not just to work, but to thrive. And that’s my reflection on this particular award."
Asked about the significance of shared values, Brzezinski replied: "Values are what have brought Poles to America, and Americans to Poland, over 200 years".
"And for over 200 years we have helped each other’s struggle for freedom, for democracy, for rule of law. And today, for the first time in history, we share that same freedom. Both America and Poland are free," he said
"But our military today – more than 10,000 troops - is deployed in Poland to protect values, to protect democracy, to protect rule of law. That is what underpins America’s engagement with and country in the world, and it is what underpins our relationship with Poland today," the U.S. ambassador underscored.
