An Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Forrest Sherman dropped anchor in the Port of Gdańsk. The vessel arrived in Poland to restock supplies and let its 380-men-strong crew get some rest. The ship is to set sail for its next mission on Wednesday. The sailors, however, did not want stand idle. Their chief, Commander Matt Zublic, told TVN24 that the crew wanted to get involved in helping refugees in Gdańsk.
All hands on deck
TVN24 Gdańsk reporter Anna Maria Wesołowska said that, both on Monday and Tuesday, the sailors turned up at the support centre at Gdańsk Stadium. They helped to unload parcels with humanitarian aid, helped in translating - as some crew members speak Ukrainian language, and even entertained children.
"They reached out to us and said they had some spare manpower. Every day we provide help to more than 1,000 people, so we need a lot of hands to work. Everyone here help how they can," said chairman of the stadium management board Paweł Buczyński.
Since March 11, around 10,000 refugees have received help at this support centre.
