Polish Space Agency (POLSA) announced on Thursday (April 20) it signed an agreement with the United States Space Command and Poland's Defence Ministry regarding exchange of information about outer space. "The rapidly increasing number of objects in the orbit and the need to maintain peaceful use of outer space require tighter international cooperation," said POLSA President Prof. Grzegorz Wrochna.
"U.S. Army Gen. James Dickinson, USSPACECOM commander, Lt. Gen. Piotr A. Błazeusz, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, and Dr. Grzegorz Wrochna, President of the Polish Space Agency, signed the agreement during Space Symposium 38 in Colorado Springs, Colo" - U.S. Space Command said in a statement at its website.
The agency added that the "Space Situational Awareness sharing program enhances the safety, stability, security, and sustainability of spaceflight for all". The U.S. Space Command also informed that it "holds more than 170 Space Situational Awareness sharing agreements with partners from the commercial sector, academia, and foreign and intergovernmental agencies".
"The rapidly increasing number of objects in the orbit and the need to maintain peaceful use of outer space require tighter international cooperation," POLSA President Prof. Grzegorz Wrochna said.
"This deal will allow exchange of information between Poland and the USA regarding the situation on the orbit. This is especially important now when satellite technologies used for communication, navigation, and Earth observation are already indispensible in the functioning of modern states," he added.
Polish Space Agency (POLSA) was established by the Act of 26 September 2014. The task of the Agency is to support the Polish space industry by combining the world of business and science. We also help to get provision for entrepreneurs in obtaining funds from the European Space Agency (ESA).
An important aspect of the Agency’s activity is to promote the development of satellite technology that can be used in everyday life, including communication, navigation, environmental monitoring and weather forecasting.
