"This is a win for the special friendship between America and Poland at this very important time in terms of the security of our people," U.S. Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski said about Poland's decision to build its first nuclear power plant with the use of American technology. Brzezinski told TVN24 on Wednesday evening that it was "a win for the special friendship between America and Poland at this very important time in terms of the security of our people".
Poland's first nuclear power plant is to be built in the north of the country by American company Westinghouse. The construction has been scheduled to begin in 2026, whereas the first reactor could be launched already by 2033.
U.S. Ambassador Mark Brzezinski was a guest of Wednesday's "Fakty po Faktach" in TVN24. "This has been more than a decade of engagement between our government and the Polish government, and private sector actors to come up with the best energy alternatives for the future of the Polish people," he said.
The ambassador called Poland's decision to build a nuclear plant together with the United States "a win". "This is a win for the special friendship between America and Poland at this very important time in terms of the security of our people. When I say security, I talk about indivisible security between our two countries, in which military to military is important, but it’s not enough. Energy security also matters because Russia has weaponised energy. … And a very good response is this decision by the Polish government," he stressed.
Brzezinski underscored that, thanks to the power plant, 26 million tonnes of CO2 less would be emitted to the atmosphere each year.
