Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Wednesday he expected decisions to be announced in the coming days and weeks to alleviate anger among Polish farmers linked to Ukrainian grain imports.
Ukraine's president told reporters at a briefing standing alongside Poland's prime minister that he had discussed the matter of Ukrainian and Polish farmers at talks in Warsaw on Wednesday and found a solution.
"We discussed the issue of our farmers, Polish farmers and Ukrainian farmers. We have found a solution. I believe that in the coming days and weeks we will finally resolve all the issues because there can be no questions, no difficulties between such close partners and real friends as Poland and Ukraine," he said.
"A new defence package has been agreed, which is very much needed right now, especially for our soldiers, who are defending the freedom and independence of not only Ukraine, (but) Poland, Europe and the whole world" Zelenskiy added.
"And it is very important that they, who are now in the trenches in the east, where it is 'hot', in the south of Ukraine, know that here in Warsaw we have agreed on something that will give Ukraine, and each and every one of our warriors, more strength," he stressed.
"This strength is very much needed now."
Poland's PM Mateusz Morawiecki said the Ukrainians "have clearly written their plan for the future in blood on the barricades". "They want to be in NATO, they want to be part of the European Union, and Poland strongly supports this aspiration because we know that as soon as Ukraine is in NATO, we will also be even safer."
"That's why from this spot I say to the European Union: 'Europe, the place of the heroic people of Ukraine is in NATO, is in the European Union'. Today, Ukrainian soldiers are showing with their blood and their enormous heroism what is a real fight for freedom, what are real European values," Morawiecki added.
Polish Agriculture Minister Henryk Kowalczyk resigned earlier on Wednesday amid rising anger among farmers over the impact of Ukrainian grain imports on prices.
