Thirteen people got injured and bruised after two trams collided at Kercelak roundabout (crossing of Okopowa Street and "Solidarności" Avenue in Warsaw. The injured have been taken to hospitals, informed officer Małgorzata Wersocka from the Warsaw Police.
The accident happened shortly after 4 p.m. Okopowa Street was impassable whereas "Solidarności" Avenue heavily congested. The police, fire service, paramedics and tram technicians appeared at the scene. Detours were possible through side streets of Okopowa Street and the police was directing the traffic, said Wersocka.
She added that both tram drivers were sober.
According to the spokesman of the Tramwaje Warszawskie, Maciej Dutkiewicz, the traffic is back to normal after the trams have been hauled away.
The accident took place when the trams were passing the switches, which means they were moving slowly, not faster than 20 km/h, said Dutkiewicz.
