"I commend the efforts of President Donald Trumps’s administration aimed at resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. I took note of the unveiling of the political part of the peace plan. Together with its economic component it constitutes a valuable basis for an in-depth discussion between two parties of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict" - Poland's Minister of Foreign Affairs Jacek Czaputowicz wrote in a statement on Wednesday.
Minister Czaputowicz expressed hope that such talks would be held in the near future and end with an agreement that would satisfy both Israel and Palestine. He also hoped that the discussion between the two parties would be held "in line with internationally agreed parameters and in respect for the international law". He also called upon both states to examine the proposed solution with open minds.
"Poland, as a member of the European Union, co-founder of the Warsaw Process, as well as a reliable member of the international community stands ready to support the Israeli-Palestinian dialogue" - reads the statement.
The minister also stressed: "At the same time we consistently remain of the view that real peace can be achieved only on the basis of voluntary agreement of both parties".
Another attempt
U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday (January 27) proposed creation of a Palestinian state with a capital in East Jerusalem, dependent on Palestinians taking steps to become self-governing, in an attempt to achieve a peace breakthrough in their decades of conflict with Israel.
Senior administration officials said that under Trump's proposed Middle East peace plan the United States will recognize Israeli settlements on the occupied West Bank.
In exchange, Israel would agree to accept a four-year freeze on new settlement activity while Palestinian statehood is negotiated, the officials said.
Israeli-Palestinian talks broke down in 2014, and it was far from clear that the Trump plan will resuscitate them.
