On Tuesday, round 12:30 p.m., an accident occurred at a railway crossing in the village of Nowa Sucha near Sochaczew (Mazowieckie Voivodeship), resulting in the derailment of an Intercity train traveling from Bydgoszcz to Lublin. A truck entered the controlled railway crossing and was struck by the speeding train. So far, there have been reports of three people suffering minor injuries, according to Karol Jakubowski from PKP PLK.
The accident took place at a crossing near Nowa Sucha. Jakubowski explained that the crossing is equipped with barriers and signals. "We do not yet know why the truck driver entered the tracks. According to my information, the vehicle appeared on the tracks just before being hit by the speeding passenger train," he stated.
As a result of the incident, three passengers traveling on the train sustained minor injuries, Jakubowski told tvn24.pl.
The truck driver, as reported by the fire department, did not suffer any serious injuries and was able to exit the cabin of his vehicle on his own.
125 people on the train
The Voivodeship State Fire Service Command in Warsaw reports that there were 125 people on the derailed train - 120 passengers and five crew members.
Six fire teams were working on site. The firefighters said that the first car of the passenger train derailed as a result of the incident.
Substitute transportation
The train, operated by PKP Intercity, was traveling from Bydgoszcz Główna to Lublin. "The accident occurred on the route connecting Warsaw and Poznań. Rail traffic has been halted. Long-distance trains have been rerouted via Skierniewice, and passengers have been informed. The carrier is organizing substitute transportation for those traveling on the train involved in the accident," said Karol Jakubowski.
He added that clearing the route would only be possible once the damaged train had been lifted back onto the tracks.
As Maciej Dutkiewicz from the press office of PKP Intercity told tvn24.pl, members of the State Commission for Railway Accident Investigation were working at the scene.
"Our passengers, who were traveling on the derailed train, will be transported by buses to Warsaw, from where trains to Lublin depart every hour," Dutkiewicz informs.
