TVN Management Board has issued a statement regarding the National Broadcasting Council's delay of the decision on the TVN24 license renewal.
The most important mission of TVN24 - as an information channel is to provide our viewers with constant access to independent, fact-based and verified information. In view of the unjustified suspension of the decision on the renewal of the TVN24 license by the National Broadcasting Council, which lasted more than one and a half years, we need to be prepared for every possible contingency.
Therefore, in July this year an application for a Dutch broadcasting license was submitted and the license was granted. In the event the National Broadcasting Council does not renew the TVN24 license by the 26th of September, it will be the Dutch license that will allow us, in accordance with Polish and EU law, to continue broadcasting. However, we still believe that we will not be forced to use it. We meet all the requirements to obtain a renewal of the license in Poland, and therefore appeal for it to be granted immediately.
We also want to emphasize in the strongest possible terms that obtaining a license for the TVN24 channel in the Netherlands does not in any way solve the problem that we deal with in connection with the amendments to the Broadcasting Act adopted by the parliament. As it stands, the bill hits all our channels, including TVN, undermining freedom of speech, media independence and private property. We again urge the authorities to reject this harmful amendment. We are also fully determined to defend the right of our viewers and all Poles to free media and free choice.
