U.S. President Donald Trump is "out on a limb" in his attitude to climate change as nearly every other government, as well as an angry younger generation, are demanding action, British naturalist David Attenborough said on Monday at U.N. climate talks in Poland.
The 92-year-old, whose TV series "Blue Planet" was avidly watched as far away as China, has been credited with raising awareness of rampant plastic pollution in the oceans. He was speaking to Reuters on the sidelines of the most important U.N. climate conference since 2015.
Asked about Trump's decision to abandon the U.N. process, Attenborough said the United States was "out on a limb".
"I can only hope that, for whatever reason and for whatever mechanism, that that will change in the United States," he said.
Trump last week dismissed projections in a report from his own government that climate change will cause severe economic harm to the U.S. economy.
Attenborough, who has been broadcasting on the natural world since the 1950s, was on Monday the first holder of the "People's Seat" at the U.N. table.
