The spokesman explained that the Polish Waters received information from the Municipal Water and Sewage (MPWiK) authority about successful tests of the repaired system.
"In order to minimize the effects of the operation, the switch has been scheduled for the coming Friday, November 15, in the evening. On weekends, there is a lesser sewage outflow towards the temporary tank and Czajka sewage plant. The operation should be complete at night between November 16 and 17," said the representative of the Polish Waters.
He also reminded that the sewage has been flowing via backup system for 66 days. In that time, 13 million cubic metres of waste has been pumped.
Mayor of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski said on Wednesday that the tanks underneath the riverbed have been positively tested for watertightness, and the transmission system has been positively passed pressure tests.
The two tanks, collecting waste from left-bank Warsaw and sending them to "Czajka" waste treatment plant, broke down in late August. As a result, the sewage was being released directly into the Vistula. Due to the danger of ecological crisis, the government decided to build a temporary pipeline.
