Ryanair has cancelled six outbound flights from Poland, including those from Warsaw-Modlin, Kraków and Gdańsk airports, as well as six inbound flights to the abovementioned cities scheduled for 10 August. On this day, a strike of pilots of the Irish carrier is set to take place.
Last week, Ryanair pilots from Dublin announced a strike. They were joined by Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Belgian crews. Soon after German and Dutch pilots decided to join in. The employees demand better work conditions, including higher pay, but also more transparent promotion and transfer systems.
Labour unions in Ryanair demand that the contracts all over Europe to be signed in line with the local law of a given state, not with the Irish law. Furthermore, they want the conditions to be equal for all employees, regardless if hired by the carrier or by an outside company. Finally, strictly financial demands have been put forward.
Ryanair claims that it offers its employees very good work conditions, often better than the competition and dismisses demands of the unions as unreasonable.
Ryanair flies to 37 countries from 86 bases. Last year it had 130 million passengers. July brought a strike of carrier's employees in Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Ireland and Italy.
Last year, the Irish carrier has served 1.677.000 passengers more than in 2016. The company taken nearly 11 million passengers on board in 2017 and reached 30.65 percent share of the Polish market.
