Poland's Foreign Minister, H.E. Zbigniew Rau, in his capacity as the Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) did not mince words as he addressed the United Nations Security Council on Monday (March 14).
"Mister President, distinguished Ambassadors, Russia’s aggression threatens the very existence of OSCE," Zbigniew Rau said.
"Its noncompliance with OSCE principals and commitments poses questions not only about the future of the organization but also about stability of the rules-based order. How effective can we be if one of the major stakeholders has repeatedly justified the use of force to win territorial and political concessions?" - he added.
The OSCE chairperson called out Russia, supported by the Belarus regime, for acting outside the parameters and boundaries of international law.
"The recent events in Ukraine have once again shone the spotlight on the situation of civilian population in conflict affected areas. We will continue to call on all sides of military conflicts to abide by humanitarian law and to refrain from activities directed against civilian population and infrastructure," Poland's Minister of Foreign Affairs said.
He also warned of the dangers of indifference. "Smoldering ashes of Khiv, Kharkiv and Mariupol and thousands of innocent lives lost are a spark reminder of a heavy price that we pay for indifference… in the face of brute force," he said.
"It is therefore high time for the international community, for the United Nations, as well as for the OSCE to reinforce our efforts to restore peace and to revert to our principles and the values. The integrity of international law and stability of the world order are at stake," Zbigniew Rau told the United Nations Security Council.
