The rescuers searching for the three miners missing since Saturday’s tremor in Zofiówka coal mine have received a radio signal emitted by a lamp of one of the missing men. The rescuers are penetrating the pit.
Daniel Ozon, president of the Zofiówka mine said at a press conference that, "signals of such frequency can be emitted by the lamps of two of the three missing miners. The signal is being distorted by a large number of metallic devices underground".
Devastating upthrust
According to the statement by the rescuers, the air is flowing through pipeline into the area where the missing men are possibly located. "Let’s hope that these men are alive," said Tomasz Śledź, deputy president of the JSW company that owns the mine.
Mr Ozon informed that the ground level beneath the flooring upthrusted together with the all of the equipment that was used in that area, including the conveyor belts. At the moment, the passages in the pit are no wider than 70 centimeters and therefore the rescuers are forced to cut and remove the contorted elements of the infrastructure. Before the tremor, the pit was 4.2 meters high and 6.1 meters wide.
Inching forward
The area is being constantly ventilated. The rescue mission is still moving closer and from two separate directions. The rescuers from one side still have to penetrate about 80 meters while the other about 150 meters.
The mission currently comprises 15 rescue teams and there will 40 team along the day. The level of methane is currently below the explosive 5 percent while there is about 20 percent of air. The temperature exceeds 28 degrees Celsius.
