Our dear friend and colleague Przemek Janowski has passed away. For nearly 20 years, Przemo worked with us at TVN24 as an editor and producer. Today, we bid him last farewell at the cemetery in Warsaw's Sadyba district.
Przemysław Janowski. Journalist. Whenever you switched on your TV's, you saw news, a multitude of news, and the faces of our morning show: the hosts and the guests. But you never saw Przemek. And yet he was behind it all. He would first conceive, then arrange, and finally deliver. We would find him in the studio, our presenters would hear his voice in their earpieces. He was everywhere where he was supposed to during the show. Always perfectly prepared, restrained, and precise. He never talked too much, but when he did, it was always spot on.
Przemo worked with us for nearly 20 years. He started as an editor, a very skillful one, excellent with words. Later on he was responsible for our midday show "Dzień na Żywo" and then became a chief producer of the morning show "Wstajesz i Wiesz". He was also involved in the most important projects during the pandemic as well as special edition programs devoted to Russian aggression against Ukraine. Przemo was also responsible for day-long TVN24 coverages of the Grand Finales of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity.
He left us unexpectedly.
It was not supposed end like this. According to the schedule, Przemo was meant to prepare and deliver today's morning show for our viewers.
"Nearly 20 years ago, Przemo was not your typical apprentice of the journalistic craft. Everything looked in order in the papers - political science, broad interests, travelling, languages. But when I saw him, his dreadlocks, tattoos, music passion, and his incredible experiences from Ireland, were all at the forefront," said TVN24 Editor-in-Chief, Michał Samul.
"And absolutely no stress during the recruitment process - a watchful, friendly look and this calm self-confidence, certainty of one's ability. Such a colorful character is a rather unusual guest in the politically-minded newsroom. I wonder how long will he last here, I though at the time."
"And yet he turned out to be perfect for this job. He proved it right from his first moments at TVN24, he could write and liked it, but he also knew how to think with images and picked the best stories to tell the viewers. Already as a night editor, he would organize work for himself and others. It was only natural he became a producer. In the control room, the studio, and in his favorite morning show, he made everyone feel taken care of and was able to make the right decisions regardless of the time pressure and events," the editor-in chief added.
"He built his authority with self-control, kind communication, and this a watchful, careful look. For us, he will remain serving as an example of a responsible news producer - he was reserved and careful with words, but once he was excited with a story or a project, he would carry it out step by step with enthusiasm and the spark in is eye," Michał Samul said.
"For these nearly 20 years, we all had the chance to experience his openness and attentiveness, and some us - his long-lasting friendship. Together we created blocks and programs, we learned the television craft from one another. Przemo was a kind, wholehearted man, surrounded with music, an experienced journalist full of passion, an exceptional professional in the everyday work. He has been and shall remain a colorful character in our ever-feverish newsroom."
