The president has time for that - President Andrzej Duda's aide Paweł Szrot asked when the head of state would start political consultations aimed at appointing a new government. Szrot added that candidate for prime minister is put forward by parliamentary majority, "but we still need to wait this majority". In his view, "we can already see first disputes among the opposition parties". "Everything suggests it will actually take a while," the aide said.
Paweł Szrot, Chief of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Poland, was asked by Polish Press Agency (PAP) when president Andrzej Duda would begin consultations with parliamentary groupings in order to appoint a new cabinet. He said "the president has time for that" and that the current term of the Sejm ends on Nov. 14.
Szrot added that, in his view, the president should not do anything with "too much haste". He also reassured all constitutional procedures would be observed.
The aide was also asked if the president would honor the custom pursuant to Article 154 of the constitution, which states that candidates for prime minister are usually put forward by parliamentary majority.
"Everything suggests it will actually take a while"
"The custom dictates that parliamentary majority designates (candidate for prime minister - edit.), but we still need to wait this majority. Whether it is there or not (the majority - edit.), in fact turns out in the Sejm chamber. And at the moment we can already see first disputes among the opposition parties. The Left is at odds with PSL (Polish People's Party - edit.). PSL unofficially puts forward their candidate for prime minister. Let's wait, everything suggests it will actually take a while," Paweł Szrot said.
Asked if he thought PiS would be able to form a coalition and stay in power for a third term, Szrot said that "politics is a part of reality in which unexpected things happen on a regular basis".
